Market may open higher on firm Asian stocks

The market may open higher on mostly higher Asian stocks. Trading of S&P CNX Nifty futures on the Singapore stock exchange indicates a gain of 35 points at the opening bell. ICICI Bank, Punjab National Bank, IDBI Bank, Dabur India, TVS Motor, NMDC and Siemens unveil quarterly results today, 31 January 2012.

NSE STOCK MARKET CLOSING NEWS ( JAN 30)


Market slides to one-week low on weak global cues

Weakness in global equity markets pulled Indian stocks lower today, 30 January 2012. The barometer index, BSE Sensex, snapped a 6-day rally to end below the psychological 17,000 mark. The Sensex lost 370.68 points or 2.15%, off about 275 points from the day's high and up close to 35 points from the day's low. The Sensex and the 50-unit S&P CNX Nifty reached one-week closing lows. The market breadth was weak. All the 13 sectoral indices on BSE declined.
The market had surged recently. The Sensex had jumped 782.51 points or 4.75% in six trading sessions to settle at 17,233.98 on Friday, 27 January 2012, from a recent low of 16,451.47 on 18 January 2012. The Sensex has jumped 1408.38 points or 9.11% so far in this month. From a 52-week high of 19,811.14 on 6 April 2011, the Sensex has lost 2947.84 points or 14.88%. From a 52-week low of 15,135.86 on 20 December 2011, the Sensex has risen 1727.44 points or 11.41%.

The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), COMDEX is trading down by 15.24 points, or 0.40%, at 3,808.90 after opening at 3,820.93. 

Other index like MCX METAL is trading downward by 37.53 points, or 0.75%, at 4,969.37 after opening at 4,998.57. Meanwhile MCXENERGY is trading up 1.88 points, or 0.06%, at 3,330.41 after opening at 3,336.16. MCXAGRI is trading down by 7.96 points, or 0.25%, at 3,206.70 after opening at 3,218.06.
 
Gainers at the MCX were COTTON CAKE AKOLA - August contract, (3.01%) with open interest of 5, Cardamom - July contract, (1.64%) with open interest of 108, Wheat - September contract, (1.38%) with open interest of 13, COPPER1KG - August contract, (0.74%) with open interest of 22,010, and Wheat - August contract, (0.68%) with open interest of 450.
 
Laggards at the MCX are POTATOTRWR - September contract, (3.89%) with open interest of 5, POTATOTRWR - August contract, (2.86%) with open interest of 108, POTATOTRWR - July contract, (2.47%) with open interest of 13, Nickel - September contract, (2.33%) with open interest of 22,010, and Cardamom - October contract, (2.22%) with open interest of 450.

Goldennifty said:  MCX Gold climbed for a third straight day as confidence among U.S. consumers rose in January and a weaker dollar increased demand for alternative investments.  

The dollar declined as much as 0.6 percent against a basket of six currencies. Before today, MCX Gold prices jumped 4 percent this week, while the dollar retreated 1 percent.

MCX Gold futures for April delivery gained 0.2 percent to $1,732.60 an ounce at 11:57 a.m. on the Comex in New York. Prices are heading for the fourth straight weekly advance. 

MCX Silver futures for March delivery slipped 0.1 percent to $33.705 an ounce on the Comex. A close at that price would be the first loss in three days.

MCX Copper declined for a second day on concerns that demand in China, the world's largest consumer, may weaken after recent price gains.MCX  Zinc, MCX Nickel and MCX Aluminum also dropped.

Three-month delivery MCX Copper fell as much as 1.2 percent to $8,420.50 a metric ton on the London Metal Exchange, and traded at $8,458 by 12:47 p.m. Shanghai time. The contract gained 3.7 percent last week when share market tips were closed in China for holidays.

The base metal tips for delivery in April on the Futures Exchange advanced 0.4 percent to 60,960 yuan ($9,649) per ton.

MCX GOLD February contract was trading at Rs 27938.00 down Rs 52.00, or 0.19%. It touched an intraday high of Rs 28050.00 and an intraday trading tips  low of Rs 27929.00. So far 7695 contracts have been traded.

MCX GOLD April contract was trading at Rs 28337.00 down Rs 47.00, or 0.17%. It touched an intraday high of Rs 28432.00 and an intraday trading tips low of Rs 28258.00. So far 3521 contracts have been traded.

MCX GOLD June contract was trading at Rs 28681.00 down Rs 38.00, or 0.13%. It touched an intraday high of Rs 28749.00 and an intraday trading tips low of Rs 28681.00. So far 144 contracts have been traded.
